Each pad has a soft cotton top layer that sits against your skin, several highly absorbent inner layers that soak up and hold your flow, and a leak-proof bottom layer that protects your underwear. The wings wrap around your underwear and close with a snap button, so the pad stays firmly in place while you move, sit or sleep.

3 Regular day pads (280 mm), 1 Maxi night pad (320 mm) and a wash bag.

Use the Regular pad (280 mm) on light to medium flow days and during the day. Use the Maxi pad (320 mm) on heavy flow days and at night, as the extra length gives more coverage at the back when you are lying down. Many women keep a mix of both for a full cycle.

Change it every 4 to 6 hours, or sooner on heavy days or when it starts to feel full. Changing on time keeps you comfortable and fresh. For your first time, try it at home so you get a feel for how long it lasts on your flow.

The absorbent inner layers hold your flow and the leak-proof bottom layer stops it from reaching your clothes, while the snap wings keep the pad from shifting. For the best protection, centre the pad in your underwear, choose the Maxi pad for heavy days and nights, and change it on time.

First, rinse the pad in cold water until the water runs clear. A short soak in cold water helps on heavy days. Then wash it by hand, or in the machine on a gentle cold cycle inside the wash bag that comes with your pack, with a mild detergent such as Fabpad Liquid Detergent, made for cloth pads and period underwear. Do not use bleach, fabric softener or hot water, as hot water can set stains.

Dry them in the sun whenever you can, as sunlight helps keep them fresh. If that is not possible, dry them in an airy spot or under a fan. Make sure the pad is completely dry, including the inner layers, before you wear it again. Do not tumble dry or iron.

Fold the used pad inwards so the stained side is inside, close the snap and keep it in the wash bag that comes with your pack until you get home. Rinse it in cold water as soon as you can.

Rinsing in cold water soon after use is the best way to prevent stains. Avoid hot water, which sets them. Over time some light marks may remain, but they do not affect how well the pad absorbs or protects.

With proper care, each pad can be washed and reused over 100 times, or for about 2 to 3 years. That means one small set of cloth pads can replace hundreds of disposable pads, saving you money every month.

Most women use around 6 to 8 cloth pads through a cycle, so 2 packs of 4 usually cover a full period with enough pads to rotate while others are being washed and dried.

Fabpad holds a licence from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) under IS 17514, the Indian Standard for reusable sanitary pads and period panties. The cotton top layer is soft on skin, and there is nothing inside the pad that you need to throw away.
